Simile กับ Metaphor คือการอุปมาอุปไมยในภาษาอังกฤษ ข้อแตกต่างของ Simile กับ Metaphor คือ Simile เป็นการ"เปรียบเหมือน" ส่วน Metaphor คือการ"เปรียบเป็น" เมื่อเขียนเป็นภาษาอังกฤษเราจะเห็นความแตกต่างได้อย่างชัดเจน เพราะประโยคที่เป็น Simile จะมีคำว่า like หรือ as ส่วนประโยคที่เป็น Metaphor จะไม่มี

เขาสู้ดุจสิงโต
He runs like a cheetah.
เขาวิ่งดั่งเสือชีต้า

แมงมุมตัวใหญ่ราวกับช้าง
